Sew Mama Sew!

For the past handful of years I have had a yearning to learn how to sew. Back in junior high school I had taken a home economics class where I had made a huge bean bag size pillow and some other items that I can not recall. A friend of mine asked if I wanted to take a one night sewing class at Selvedge Studio here in Missoula. I jumped at the opportunity. In the three hour class we made this cute reversible apron. I have been hooked to the machine since!
Reversible Apron Side 1!
Reversible Apron Side 2! The studio has such a great atmosphere and so many great fabrics.
It was fun to select  the fabrics, the ones on the 40% off table caught my eye and were priced just right.

I actually started this apron right after with the remaining material from the little kid
chairs. The project got left abandoned for a few months as I
didn't really know what I was doing at all. After taking the class
I was able to figure out what my problem was!

I took my first trip to Joann Fabrics next. What a fun store. I have figured out that it
may be too much fun  for the girls as they love to run wild, which makes it
hard to look at fabrics! I ended up finding this cute hearts fabric that I thought
would be perfect for Valentine's Day. The first tutorial I used for this skirt used the larger elastic
band exposed as shown above. Addy wasn't a big fan of the elastic touching her stomach, Amelia
doesn't seem to mind and has taken ownership of the skirt.

Addy has a pair of red and green striped tights so I thought I would buy some red fabric to make a skirt to go along with them. I added some ribbon to the bottom
for an added touch so it wouldn't be too plain. With the extra red fabric I  found some small pieces of a snowflake pattern and decided to try to add it to the two sides. I think it worked out pretty good. Now Addy wishes her red skirt looked like Amelia's skirt! Amelia and her happy face, if only she could keep her eyes open!

I made a skirt for cousin Sophie that Jimmy delivered to her when he went back to MN for a work trip. This picture just cracks me up! I think Sophie likes it!

This next skirt was also inspired with a pair of flower print tights that Addy  has. I decided to try to adding bias tape to the hem. It turned out pretty good for the first try. The skirt is a little big, but I know she will grow into it.

The pattern that I am liking the best right now comes from this blog: Easy- Peasy Skirts!

As you can see I have found a new hobby! Now hopefully Addy won't try to go to preschool with just her tights on her legs like she did a week back!
