Fourth of July

After catching a ball game on Friday night Adelyn, Cooper, Jimmy, and I headed up North for the holiday weekend. On the 4th we ate a picnic lunch at beautiful Yellow Bay State Park on Flathead lake. The water was so nice we were wishing that Adelyn could swim; maybe next year.
As we continued with our drive we caught the tail end of the Bigfork Parade (actually we just got stuck in Bigfork Parade traffic!). We then decided to go on a hike in the Jewel Basin area. After driving on 7 miles of dirt road with whoop de doos we made it to the trail head.

The hike was certainly the highlight of the day. This was one of Adelyn's first experiences with real Montana wilderness. Besides crying for the first five minutes of the hike she slept the entire time! The rushing stream water seemed to calm her down. We made our way past lush hillsides of wildflowers and even let Cooper take a swim in Birch Lake! We weren't able to stop and enjoy the lake since it was quite warm out and we didn't want to wake Adelyn up and have the chance of her crying for the hike back to the car!

Adelyn is still a bit too young to camp through the cold Montana nights so we stayed at a hotel in Kalispell on Saturday night and rewarded ourselves with hamburgers in Whitefish.
With so much activity Adelyn was too tuckered out to last for the fireworks on Whitefish Lake so we called it an early night. To our surprise there was quite the amateur firework spectacular happening in our parking lot so we were able to see a few "rockets red glare" from our hotel window.
